The toy industy is trying to kill me

I swear it must be the dirty little secret of the toy industry that they are slowly trying to drive parents mad! Why, oh why, must all toys have so many pieces to them? Our play area should look like this:
But instead, regularly, looks like this:
Just when I, I repeat, I, clean it up, Little Monkey immediately dumps out every box, turns over every container, and pulls apart every piece. It makes for a long and exhausting day!

ahhh yes! The funny thing about it, at least in our home, James doesn't even play with half of it. Yet every toy needs to be scattered about the house!

I so feel your pain, if the playroom isn't bad enough, it gets dragged into other parts of the house.

Ahhh, we don't even HAVE a playroom! And, just so you know, the bigger the kids get, the smaller the pieces - and lots more of them. I promise, I have thousands and thousands of Lego pieces in my house.

Kelly,

Play room? Ha! No, I said play "area". We have a 1700 sq ft, 2 br house... definitely no play room. LM is relegated to three shelves on the book shelf in the living room. That's all he's getting!

Our living room is filled with scattered toys, too. It drives me crazy every time I accidentally step on one of those little pieces.

LOL. I feel your pain too! Only 1 child but the mess he makes, it's like we have a dozen kids in our house.

Oh, boy, don't I know about this one. Wait till you have two or more - and the Barbies are competing with the GI Joes for who has the most vacuum-cleaner-killing parts.

Poor Polly Pocket has no more shoes, because mom was vicious. Every single one that I sucked up the vacuum felt like a mini-victory. You'll never clutter up my floor again, little pink shoe the size of a red ant!!

How old is little monkey? If he is big enough to walk, he is big enough to start picking up his own stuff! It is SO tedious to teach them at first, but you'll be glad you did. I didn't learn this till the 2nd kiddo, and could have saved myself a lot of backaches.

Sara,
I clearly remember those days, a few years back. Now my daughter is going through it, she has 4 children and every room in her house looks like "toys R us", there is no solution except, throw them out haha. The toys, not the kids.

Okay, I just now saw your comment about play area. Then let me say, I can feel your pain! While I wish for my own playroom I will wish for you one as well!

Can't I dump all of the toys onto the floor next time I come over?

Imagine that times three! I buy lots of containers, thinking that will make things easier, but nothing seems to help.

just don't pick it up until someone comes over. ;-)

i have found that the messier it is though the less they will play so as soon as you organize it they are hot for going back in there again and having fun! (Hence your son's dumping of everything just after pickup!)

I just got sucked into buying the 100 piece mega blocks for $10 at wal-mart. my mother asked me to buy it for the kids. I try not to say no when they want ot give the kids something but this request made me cringe!
